Automation Engineer – Gates, Barriers, Bollards & HVM
Location: London / South East
Working Pattern: Field-based from home, with travel to client sites
Salary: £50-60,000 basic for 40 hour working week

Are you an experienced Automation Engineer, Gate Engineer, Barrier Engineer or HVM Engineer looking for a role where your technical skills will be valued?
We’re working with a growing, family-run engineering business that delivers high-quality automation, safety and security solutions across London and the surrounding areas. Due to continued growth, they are looking to speak with experienced engineers who have a background in automated gates, barriers, bollards, hydraulic systems, access control, HVM or safety-critical automation systems.
This is a field-based role, working from home with travel to client sites. There is no central office location, and engineers are paid door to door.
The Role
You’ll be involved in the maintenance, fault-finding, testing and commissioning of automated and hydraulic systems, with a particular focus on barriers, bollards, HVM and safety-related control systems.
Typical duties may include:
- Reactive and planned preventative maintenance on automated and hydraulic control systems
- Fault-finding, testing and troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical and automation systems
- Working on gates, barriers, bollards, access control and HVM-related equipment
- Supporting commissioning and handover of systems on client sites
- Integrating or working with control systems, sensors, safety devices and associated electrical equipment
- Ensuring work is completed safely, professionally and to a high standard
- Communicating clearly with clients, colleagues and site contacts
About You
You’ll ideally have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Automated gates, barriers, bollards or access control systems
- HVM, hostile vehicle mitigation or high-security perimeter systems
- Hydraulic systems or hydraulic controls
- Electrical fault-finding and control systems
- PLCs, sensors, safety devices or automation equipment
- Planned and reactive field service engineering
- Testing, troubleshooting or commissioning on client sites
You’ll also need:
- A strong hands-on engineering approach
- Good problem-solving skills
- A professional, team-focused attitude
- A full UK driving licence
- Eligibility for UK security clearance
